Mephiston Reborn: WIP #1

Definitely a little late to the party, but getting around to putting paint on my Mephiston model. Really like the pose and style - modern version based on a very classic bit of artwork.

Librarian in Terminator Armour

This guy has been kicking around my desk since about March, when I airbrushed 17 terminators and 50 magnetised arms. I left him out when batch painting all the others red, and it's taken me a while to feel like picking up another terminator...

Terminators: Arms & Armaments

Last post left off with me having finished up 15 magnetised terminator models - which of course left me with a massive pile of magnetised arms to paint as well...

Terminators: Bodies & Basing

Since I magnetised all my terminator arms, I figured that it will be best to do the bodies and bases first; that way I will be able to attach sets of arms onto the completed bodies later to make painting easier. I've done these from the ground up. Bases & bodies first, with arms and attachments to come in a later post.

Terminators: Pinning & Priming

Having tidied away the sector imperialis boards, I'm back to working on small(ish) minis again. I have 3 squads of terminators ready to prime up.

Space Hulk board tiles in action (with terminator stand ins)

I finished up my Space Hulk tiles a little bit before Christmas but never got around to adding some photos of them in use. Few pics from a game earlier this year.

Sector Imperialis Boards: Wrap up

As the big project for the first half of 2020 wraps up... I thought it worthwhile to summarise the steps that were taken to paint everything, plus add a few pictures of the boards set up with terrain.

Sector Imperialis Boards: Part 7

Home stretch now - adding some light effects over the top of everything else, then calling it a day. This has taken a bunch of hours over probably 3 months, during which the boards have mostly been either been on or resting next to our dining table.

Sector Imperialis Boards: Part 6

Up to the weathering episode; rust, dirt and blood.

I seem to keep adding time onto this project as it progresses. No individual step is super complicated or accurate, but by the time it takes to get around all 6 boards with a couple of small details, an hour can have passed.

Sector Imperialis Boards: Part 5

Last episode finished up with the white/marble inlay sections completed. That now leaves me with really just the aquilas to paint, plus all the weathering & rusting to finish up. This phase will also include some other little nuances.

Sector Imperialis Boards: Part 4

Getting relatively close to finishing up the sector boards now - and working on the detailing of some marble/stone sections which add a bit of flair on top of the Warhammer TV guide that the rest of the project has followed. Have quite been looking forward to trying this approach out.

Sector Imperialis Boards: Part 3

It has been a kind of fun change doing these boards on a much bigger scale than troops - although it's still a LOT of painting to cover. Now on to washing large parts of the boards.

Sector Imperialis Boards: Part 2

The continuation of what is a rather large project - working up the 6 sector imperialis boards. Part 1 left off with all the stonework and the roadways being completed; all the metal sheeting and detail panels now need to be filled in.

Sector Imperialis Boards: Part 1

January 2019 I bought a set of the excellent Sector Imperialis boards. They may have sat in a box for the best part of 12 months before making an appearance for painting up. Part 1 gets us through the priming, stonework and roads.

Something Different: Sam's Study - Part 2

Following on from part 1... the back stretch of building the Study has had some tough bits and a few cut corners. Turns out doing mood lighting at micro scale can be a challenge.

Something Different: Sam's Study

Ok - so this is about as far from 40k as it's likely to get in model building. As a little weekend project during lockdown weeks, we've been building a model kit in dollhouse scale of a study/library.

Retro Post: Chapter Standard bearers

I wanted to test out a white backdrop for taking photographs of finished minis; came across some of the old metal models I'd painted in the late 90s... Quite fitting to do a little mucking around on the classic white sheet and 4 very classic chapters.

Terminators. Lots of Terminators. WIP #1 - Planning & Cleanup

I realise mistakes may have been made... this could have been a much smaller and less involved project. Strap in - lots of background discussion on why I've done things my way.

Bolter Batching WIP #1 - parts & cleanup

Something of a catch up post - I managed to *mostly* work through 30 red marines over 2019, and it's time to dump out some of the WIP pictures taken over their progress.
