Sector Imperialis Boards: Part 7

Home stretch now - adding some light effects over the top of everything else, then calling it a day. This has taken a bunch of hours over probably 3 months, during which the boards have mostly been either been on or resting next to our dining table.

Sector Imperialis Boards: Part 6

Up to the weathering episode; rust, dirt and blood.

I seem to keep adding time onto this project as it progresses. No individual step is super complicated or accurate, but by the time it takes to get around all 6 boards with a couple of small details, an hour can have passed.

Sector Imperialis Boards: Part 5

Last episode finished up with the white/marble inlay sections completed. That now leaves me with really just the aquilas to paint, plus all the weathering & rusting to finish up. This phase will also include some other little nuances.

Sector Imperialis Boards: Part 4

Getting relatively close to finishing up the sector boards now - and working on the detailing of some marble/stone sections which add a bit of flair on top of the Warhammer TV guide that the rest of the project has followed. Have quite been looking forward to trying this approach out.

Sector Imperialis Boards: Part 3

It has been a kind of fun change doing these boards on a much bigger scale than troops - although it's still a LOT of painting to cover. Now on to washing large parts of the boards.

Sector Imperialis Boards: Part 2

The continuation of what is a rather large project - working up the 6 sector imperialis boards. Part 1 left off with all the stonework and the roadways being completed; all the metal sheeting and detail panels now need to be filled in.

Sector Imperialis Boards: Part 1

January 2019 I bought a set of the excellent Sector Imperialis boards. They may have sat in a box for the best part of 12 months before making an appearance for painting up. Part 1 gets us through the priming, stonework and roads.

Scatter Terrain: Barrels of Fun.

Little quick (sort of?) side project in painting up 3D printed barrels for scatter terrain...

Objective Markers: Glass fuses

Taking a small break from big terrain and red marines to do some objective markers... These are blatantly knocked off from one of Wyloch's crafting vids, but with a few tweaks on size and colour...

Terrain build: Bremer walls - 1m of terrain constructed & painted

For some reason, I had the idea of these stuck in my head for about a week after seeing a pic of a modern army base - this was a bit of an experiment to see if I could do a quick build of 20 panels...

Space Hulk: 3D Hirst Arts construction

I think I might have done something silly... trying to build a 3D set of Space Hulk terrain with 40mm squares suitable for full terminator bases.

Fallout billboards for 40k terrain: tabletop ready(ish)

Since my airbrush (and about 400 other bits of equipment, paint, etc) have been on our dining table, I've taken the chance to smash out some more basecoating of scenery before they outstay their welcome.

The two Fallout inspired billboards that were knocked up a few weeks ago are now serviceable (if not yet weathered/detailed).

Warsenal containers: adding colour

I've had 10 of the excellent Warsenal storage containers built since about Easter, but have been slow to put paint on them with the distraction of building minis from the Dark Imperium box. The first batch of storage containers now have some paint on them...

Fallout billboards for 40k terrain: quick weekend construction

I'd been thinking about scratch building some billboards for 40k for a long time (even bought a packet of plasticard I-beams about a year ago...) but have kept putting it off as my ideas for building something featured overly complex designs of beams & frameworks.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that a dude I've known through work for ~10 years is actually a hardcore closet gamer, and has recently put in 120+ hours exploring Fallout 4.

Our long talk about the Fallout world prompted me to just dive in and just build something 'good enough' rather than a perfect reflection of a real-life billboard.

Warsenal containers

I bought a whole bunch of Warsenal terrain last Christmas and (apart from a set of wooden shipping pallets) hadn't had a chance to work on putting these together. The first half of the storage crates started their journey over the Easter weekend.

Sanguinary Guard statues - painting

Praise the mobile phone for WIP photos... as basic as they are. The guard have been given a moderately heavy drybrush of brass, but trying to leave lots of black shadow throughout.

Trying out the verdigris technical paint from GW (Nihilakh oxide). This is very liquid and seems to get a decent effect running into the crevices. Strictly speaking it's not how oxides form, but not bad for a quick look on a miniature.

Sanguinary Guard statues - WIP

These are probably a *little* more original than the road barrier design for scenery - the CNC road boards I'm building have a couple of corner paved areas that have a little circular space and thought they would make a good spot to stick a statue as part of a promenade or similar line.

Scenery: Road Barriers - based on Bugbait_NZ

I started building these quite some time ago, but they have basically been nearing completion on painting so wanted to post the construction first.

Worth mentioning straight away that these have been blatantly stolen from Bugbait_NZ's awesome scenery blog - link to his Infinity discussion here: http://infinitytheforums.com/forum/topic/15963-bugbaits-terrain-thread/

These are definitely a level below that standard, but ok for my level of skills :-)
