I think I have a new found love for washes. Not only are they ridiculously quick to add some colour, but they add highlight and shade in one step. Plus a few colours together gets all sorts of interesting effects.
26 Poxwalkers got to be the test subjects for batch painting, and I kept semi-faithful to the approach that our-lord-Duncan outlines on Warhammer TV.
The main underlying difference is that I also wanted to test out some pre-shading aspects; on top of a black primer they all got a top-down dusting of vallejo grey (virtually white). Any surfaces facing downward have kept their black colour, which makes the overall mini a bit darker as well as adding natural shadows quickly.
Any exposed skin areas start with a reikland fleshshade wash. Surprisingly, that gives them a pretty natural flesh tone. Who would have thought.
Depending on specific appendages... each then copped druchii violet (tentacles - possible a little overpowering...), athonian camoshade (horns & tumours), agrax earthshade (scales, deep recesses).
I'm a bit amazed at how quickly the shades add depth to these guys - in hindsight, mixing these up a bit further (eg, doing some horns blue or black) might have been a good option, but for mass production I don't think I've had such a good trade off between effect vs time invested.
With the various skin colours washed in, there is relatively little left to colour - some scraps of clothing and few metallic weapons (plus tidy up the bases).
