Showcase: Assault Squad Mittitur

Putting a self-imposed deadline on this squad for the Bolter & Chainsword pledge has helped finish off my assault squad (complete with 2 changes of packs). Will do some better res pics with an SLR once the guys get a matt varnish over the decals.

I was mucking around a bit arranging the bases in the pattern of 10-pins for bowling and quite like the way this random shot came out...

The last bit to finish off was the set of magnetised standard packs to go with the jump packs already done.

The sergeant banner follows the pattern I have taken for the 5th company in quadrants. The 7th squad sergeant is tagged 'Mittitur' (latin for released/thrown), which I thought was fitting when building them out for jump packs.

The 2nd in charge gets a little bit of extra bling and can be set up to lead a combat squad if splitting out.

I wasn't sure how well the single-leg poses would go with the bases, but they seem to be holding well and definitely give some more dynamic positions than the tac squads and devs I have built out.

Also the first time I've mixed beakie helmets into a squad and they have grown on me. The crouched pose came out well, although wonder if a chainsword out to the side might have worked a little better.

The specialists were hotly debated... when the new indexes dropped I was about to load these guys with flamers instead but thankfully the BA armies can still take meltadeath.

Extra little bonus - small magnet in the base lets me add a melta to the back of the sergeant.

I'll need to get some more shots of the jump packs from different sides but these will be the other packs. TBH I suspect the jump packs will get more game time...

    1. Thanks - still plenty to learn and practice. The red has some shading from airbrushing Mephiston red at an angle that I'm fairly happy with. If you want a masterclass in grim-dark red shading, have a look at the blood angels by The Mighty Brush :-)
